Abierto Suite: A Unique and Elegant Hospitality Design

An Exclusive Lounge for the Abierto Mexicano De Tenis

The inspiration for the Abierto Suite came from the need to create a structure that would be strong yet light, permeable to heat, wind, and people's sights. Mariano Badaracco envisioned a space that would provide a sense of exclusiveness to the guests inside while allowing others, including the press, to see through. The rhomboidal grid structure not only adds elegance to the design but also ensures maximum strength, making it suitable for the hot and humid weather of Acapulco.

What sets the Abierto Suite apart from other hospitality designs is its ability to combine functionality and aesthetics seamlessly. The elegant form of the structure serves its function of providing a privileged space for a select few while maintaining a sense of openness. Despite the high temperatures, the Abierto Suite remains cool, thanks to its permeable design and the use of solid banak wood. Additionally, the entire structure can be easily assembled and dismantled, making it highly versatile.

The Abierto Suite was meticulously crafted by Mariano Badaracco's in-house carpenters team using solid banak wood. The tables, coaches, stools, and chairs were all handmade, adding a touch of craftsmanship to the design. The plants used in the space were locally sourced from small producers in the Acapulco bay area, further enhancing the connection to the local environment.

With a total width of 6.90 meters, a length of 10.40 meters, and a height of 3 meters, the Abierto Suite offers ample space for guests to relax and enjoy the event. The space is well-lit with in-house made pin beam light fixtures and incandescent bulbs placed strategically in every rhombus. To ensure a comfortable environment, the design incorporates a sports net ceiling and four industrial-quality fans, creating a perfect air cooling system.

During the Abierto Mexicano De Tenis, the Abierto Suite operated as a bar, serving complimentary drinks and food to VIP guests. The bar was managed by an eight-member team, catering to the needs of the guests from 4 pm to 1 am. The design of the Abierto Suite allowed for smooth operation and efficient service, ensuring a memorable experience for all.

The Abierto Suite project was designed throughout 2014 and brought to life in early 2015 in Acapulco City, Mexico. It operated for a week, from the 23rd to the 28th of February, during the Abierto Mexicano De Tenis. The design underwent rigorous testing and received positive feedback from both in-house and external colleagues and clients before being put into production.

This outstanding design has been recognized for its creativity and ingenuity. The Abierto Suite was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2015 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
